Born on the 3rd of January, 1957, Amb. Hassan Ardo Tukur, OFR, hails from Kilbawo, Jada LGA, Adamawa State of Nigeria. His primary, secondary and tertiary education between 1964 and 1980 were all in the northern part of the country resulting in a B.Sc. (Political Science) degree from the Bayero University, Kano.

Amb. Hassan Ardo Tukur joined the Ministry of External Affairs in August, 1981 and had several internal and external postings, including Saudi Arabia, United Kingdom, and Equatorial Guinea. In 1984 to 1985 he was the Principal Protocol Officer to the Head of State, State House, Lagos. He was promoted Foreign Service Officer Grade I in January 2005 and served as Special Assistant to the Honourable Minister of State for Foreign Affairs on his return to Headquarters from Malabo. In April 2002 Amb. Tukur was seconded to the Nigeria – Sao Tome and Principe Joint Development Authority (JDA) as Deputy Director, Office of the Chairman, and subsequently appointed as Executive Director (Finance and Administration) in the same Organisation.

Career milestones of Amb. Hassan Ardo Tukur include membership of the UN Election Team to Namibia that ensured SWAPO’s victory to usher in Namibia’s Independence (October-December 1989). He was Charge d’Affaires a.i. of the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Malabo, Equatorial Guinea( January, 1994–November, 1998) where among others, he successfully guided negotiations on the Maritime Boundary Demarcation between Nigeria and Equatorial Guinea leading to the signing of a Treaty between the two countries which saved about 6 Billion barrels of oil Reserves for Nigeria as well as paving the way for the unitization of Zafiro/Ekanga oil fields, which yielded revenue of over $2 Billion to Nigeria and added 62 Million barrels of oil Reserves to the country. This earned him a second National Honour from Equatorial Guinea of the Commander of the Order of independence of Equatorial Guinea. Amb. Hassan Ardo Tukur also actively participated in the negotiations leading to the signing of the Joint Development Zone (JDZ) Treaty between Nigeria and the Democratic Republic of Sao Tome and Principe (DRSTP). The treaty apart from safe guarding Nigeria’s interest yielded over $350 Million Dollars by way of Signature Bonus to the State parties.

Amb. Tukur was a member of the National Boundary Commission (NBC) Technical Committee (TC) on boundary negotiations (1989 to 2005). He also successfully assisted in the resolution of many regional conflicts especially in Cote D’Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Sao tome and Principe, Mali and Niger during the course of his illustrious career in the public service.

He was appointed Secretary, National Energy Council and Senior Special Assistant to Mr. President on Energy Partnership (September 2007 to June 2010). He subsequently served as the Principal Secretary to the President from June, 2010 to May, 2015. He was conferred with “Ambassador-in-situ” by the President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in July 2010.

In recognition of his selfless service to Nigeria, Amb. Tukur was conferred with the National Honour of Member of the Order of the Federal Republic (MFR) in 2004 and Officer of the Order of the Federal Republic (OFR) in 2011 by the then respective Presidents of Federal Republic of Nigeria.

Amb. Tukur retired voluntarily from the civil service on 31st December 2015. He currently serves as the Chairman of the Board, Gulf of Guinea Consulting, the Vice Chairman, Dragon Oil and Gas, an Exploration & Production Company operating in Cote D’Ivoire as well as the Chairman of the Board of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company.

Amb. Hassan Ardo Tukur also engages in Real Estate development, Gold and Nickel mining in Nigeria, amongst others.

Amb. Hassan Ardo Tukur is married with children. His hobbies include Reading, Philanthropy, and Football. Amb. Tukur speaks seven (7) languages, four (4) International and Three (3) Local Nigerian languages.
